President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) to simplify and shorten the process of payment claims in hospitals.
“My plea that this be simplified… All of these things can be compressed more so that it would not [add up to] the hardships on a Filipino who is sick and recuperating,” Duterte told PhilHealth CEO and President Dante Gierran during Monday night’s Cabinet meeting.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the Chief Executive wanted to just let the indigent patient sign so he can immediately go home after his treatment.
“Iyong ideal is to compress the process more and not bring more hardship to the sick and indigent Filipino patient and not have to worry about the process,” Roque said in a televised briefing Tuesday.
According to him, Gierran promised to discuss this with the PhilHealth board so they can implement the President’s directive.
