Gatchalian to FDA: Be more proactive in approving vaccines

Step up.

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian has called on the Food and Drug Administration to be proactive in approving applications for the use of coronavirus vaccines in the country.

As the government is still in middle of negotiations for the country’s supply of the life-saving drugs, Gatchalian said regulatory authorities should not wait for the vaccine applications “to fall on their lap.”

“I agree with @iamkarendavila that FDA should be more proactive in getting vaccines approved. They cannot just wait for applications to fall on their lap,” he tweeted.

Gatchalian stressed the importance of coronavirus vaccines to ensure public health and stimulate the country’s’ economy. The country has fallen into recession after the economy was severely hit by the months of strict lockdown to stem the spread of the virus.

“The country is losing P5B/day in economic losses under this pandemic. We need to go back to work & jumpstart the economy,” Gatchalian said.
