Gov’t now requires use of face shields when leaving home

The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) has required the public to wear full face shields together with face masks outside of the home.

The use of face shield was previously only required for those entering commercial places and on public transport.

“At dahil malapit na ang Pasko at Bagong Taon, alam naman natin na dadami ang mga tao na lalabas sa kanilang bahay at para mabawasan ang panganib na dala ng hawahan ng mga tao, nire-require na ng inyong IATF ang pagsuot ng face shields,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Tuesday.

“Ngayon po kasi kinakailangan palaging naka face mask, pero ang face shields ay required lamang para sa mga malls at enclosed na mga lugar. Pero ngayon kinakailangan na isuot na kapareho ang face shield at ang face mask,” added Roque.

Roque also cited studies that coronavirus infections are lessened when face shields are worn.

“Merong studies that show na na-i-improve ang chances of avoiding the disease pag sumuot ng face shield not just the face mask,” he said.
