‘Justice denied but can be sidelined’: Gadon hits back at law deans, profs opposing Leonen’s impeachment

Lawyer Larry Gadon hit back at law deans and professors who questioned his impeachment complaint that was filed before the House of Representatives against Supreme Court (SC) Justice Marvic Leonen.

“If distinguished lawyers see nothing wrong with 82 backlog and aging cases some as old as 5 years rotting in respondent Leonen’s chamber then the real essence of justice is dead ,” he said in a statement.

“Lawyers keep on reciting the principle that justice delayed is justice denied but if it involves their color the idealism in justice gets sidelined,” Gadon lamented.

Gadon responded to the statement issued by a group of law deans and professors who expressed their support to Leonen and called the impeach complaint that was filed last Dec. 7 as having “unsubstantiated and groundless allegations.”

“The manifesto is nothing but a publicity stunt,” Gadon said about the statement of law deans and professors.

“Their sentiments are irrelevant and mean nothing,” he added.

With this, the lawyer advised the group to get elected as congressmen “so that they can participate in the process of determining the guilt of respondent Leonen, otherwise their publicity stunt is nothing but a tiny speck in the Impeachment process.”

“There are hundreds of thousands of lawyers in the country, a group of 200 barristers hardly make a dent enough to conclude that Leonen is not guilty,” Gadon said.

“The better thing I can suggest for them is to read first the complaint as it appears that they want to exonerate Leonen without first knowing what the complaint is all about,” he pointed out.
