Department of Justice (DOJ) personnel shouldn’t be involved in illegal activities, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra warned on Saturday (Dec. 19).
“The DOJ is the principal agency mandated to administer criminal justice,” he said.
“Thus, any personnel of the DOJ, in whatever capacity or status, who gets involved in criminal activities should expect a stricter treatment under the laws that he is duty-bound to enforce and implement,” he added.
The warning was made after the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested DOJ contractual employee Louie Miranda during an entrapment operation in Quezon City last Dec. 15.
Miranda was arrested for posing as an emissary of retired Philippine National Police (PNP) chief and incoming customs commissioner Camilo Cascolan and asked P1 million from customs brokers as gifts for the former police official.
