Malacañang has denied rumors that Metro Manila would revert to a modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) before Christmas.
“Fake news,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Saturday evening.
Roque was reacting to a memorandum allegedly issued by the Philippine National Police that the National Capital Region would shift back to tighter quarantine restrictions starting December 19.
Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana also belied reports of stricter lockdown during the holiday season, saying that “the current situation in Metro Manila is stable and manageable and does not warrant a shift back to MECQ.”
Last November, President Rodrigo Duterte announced the extension of general community quarantine in Metro Manila under December 31.
