Palace on WB forecast: ‘We will do better in 2021’

By Prince Golez

Malacañang is saddened by the World Bank’s latest projection that the Philippine economy will likely contract by 8.1 percent this year due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, weather-related shocks and the global recession.

“Nalulungkot tayo diyan dahil ibig sabihin mas maraming maghihirap sa pagbagal ng ating pag-unlad. Pero ‘yan naman po ay naging resulta ng pandemiya at ng mga sigalot na sunod-sunod na dumaan sa ating bansa,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a virtual presser Tuesday.

Roque, however, assured that the country’s economy will hold up well in the next year.

“Kaya po natin ito at babangon tayo. We will do better in 2021,” according to him.

He also reminded the public to continue observing the government’s minimum health protocols to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

“Pagdating sa pandemiya, kaya po natin ito. Sundin lang natin ang sinasabi ng Presidente: Mask, hugas at iwas. Pag-ingatan ang buhay para sa hanapbuhay,” he concluded.
