Parang nabubusalan kasi! Duterte removes mask in meeting on COVID-19 threat

President Rodrigo Duterte removed his mask at a meeting with health experts and members of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) Saturday (December 26).

Duterte sought the officials’ pardon for taking off his mask, saying he “cannot pronounce the words properly” as the face covering was “bothering me.”

“Pagpasensiya na kayo. Wala — hindi naman siguro — walang hulihan naman dito,” he joked.

Justifying his removal of the face mask, Duterte said: “Well, there is — no one is above the law. When it says that you are violating a certain regulation, ang problema hindi ako makapagsalita ng — I seem to — stammered ang bunganga ko.”

Duterte was seated a chair apart from Senator Bong Go and Health Secretary Francisco Duque III at the meeting held in Malacanang.

Health authorities recommend the wearing of face masks as a preventive measure against catching COVID-19, which could be spread through respiratory droplets.
