Whether it is the death of a communist New People’s Army rebel or a soldier, it is bad and tragic as it is a Filipino who died.
Sen. Panfilo Lacson stressed this Tuesday at the start of the Senate defense committee’s third hearing on red-tagging.
“As far as we are concerned, a dead NPA rebel or a dead soldier is only as bad and tragic as a dead Filipino. For we see no difference at all except probably the cause that they fought and died for,” said Lacson, who chairs the defense committee.
Lacson’s statement came after Senate President Vicente Sotto III extended the Senate’s “deepest condolences and sympathy” to Bayan Muna Rep Cullamat for the loss of her daughter Jevilyn.
Jevilyn died in an encounter with government troops in Mindanao over the weekend.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family. May your beautiful memories sustain and bring comfort to you during this difficult time. On behalf of the Senate,” Sotto said.
