Sen. Panfilo Lacson is hopeful President Rodrigo Duterte will veto the questionable appropriations in the 2021 budget, including those he flagged earlier this year.
Lacson said the failure to veto such items may mean a worsening problem involving unutilized funds in the budget.
“I just hope pagdating sa Dec 28 makikita na ma-veto ang ilang questionable na appropriations hindi lang sa DPWH kundi pati sa ibang ahensya. But mostly DPWH kasi doon lumobo umabot ng P694B ang pinasa ng Kongreso,” he said in an interview with Politiko.
He said that for the Department of Public Works and Highways alone, the average unused appropriation since 2011 is almost P83 billion.
This is due to the lack of planning of projects, such that they are not implemented fully, he said.
