Amid the red-tagging being made, the government has remained mum as to which groups and individuals it intends to designate as terrorists under the Anti-Terrorism Law.
“We are not at liberty at this time to discuss the matter of designations of terrorist groups,” Department of Justice (DOJ) Undersecretary Emmeline Aglipay-Villar said Friday (Dec. 25).
“This is a sensitive matter,” she added.
The DOJ spokesperson said this as civil society groups are bracing themselves for another wave of arrests against those red-tagged by government officials.
Villar explained terrorist designations is “pursuant to Section 25 of The Anti-terrorism Act.”
“Designations will be based on UN Security Council Resolution 1373, from evidence presented by requesting supranational or foreign jurisdictions, and evidence available to the Anti-terrorism Council where the designation is to be based on its finding of probable cause,” she said.
