Palace Spokesman Harry Roque on Monday denied that the Philippines is the “Covid-19 Capital of the World” due to its continued rise in virus cases.
Roque issued the remark after Rappler’s youth culture section “Hustle” published a comic strip claiming that the rest of the world has recovered from the pandemic, except the country.
“Hindi totoo na COVID capital tayo. Paki-korek naman po ‘yan,” the Palace official said in his virtual presser.
Citing the World Health Organization and Johns Hopkins ranking as of March 29, Roque said the Philippines ranked 30th when it comes to total Covid-19 cases and 22nd in terms of active cases.
On Sunday, the Department of Health reported a total of 721,892 Covid-19 cases, of which 105,568 are active cases and 13,170 have died.
