Sumbungan sa Senado! Raffy Tulfo leaps past experienced politikos to land 2nd in Pulse Asia’s senatorial survey

Will broadcaster Raffy Tulfo soon make the Senate his new “sumbungan” or platform for airing people’a grievances?

Owing perhaps to the success of his publjc service show, Tulfo leapt past more experienced politikos to land second in Pulse Asia’s commissioned survey of potential senatorial candidates.

Tulfo is ranked between second and third place, next only to Senator Manny Pacquiao, who enjoys a solo lead.

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte is ranked 2nd to 4th, followed by Manila Mayor Isko Moreno with a rank of 3rd to 7th place.

Tied next to Moreno are Sorsogon Governor Francis Escudero and Taguig Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano, who are ranked 4th to 7th place.

Former and incumbent senators showed their enduring popularity as their chances of winning the senatorial race remain strong if the polls were held today.

Antique Rep. Loren Legarda is ranked 4th to 8th, followed by former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., who placed 7th to 9th.

Next at 8th to 10th place is Senator Panfilo Lacson, followed by Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri at 9th to 10th place.

Tied at 11th to 16th place are: Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, former senator Jinggoy Estrada, Senators Francis Pangilinan, Risa Hontiveros and Richard Gordon.

Rounding up the list of politikos with a statistical chance of winning the senatorial race is Public Works Secretary Mark Villar, who is ranked 11th to 20th.

Pulse Asia conducted the survey between November 23 and December 2, 2020.

Respondents were allowed to give up to 12 names of politikos they will vote for senator if the 2022 elections were held during the survey period.

Tulfo has become synonymous with the airing of grievances, with netizens tagging him in controversial social media posts and complaints.

The endorsement of Raffy and his brother Erwin was widely seen to be the main reason ACT-CIS party-list topped the 2019 elections with three seats.

Tulfo’s wife Jocelyn is a congressional representative of ACT-CIS.
