Bitter pa rin! Find out what Alan Cayetano wanted Duterte to say during speakership fight

Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano still appears to be licking his wounds close to three months after losing the speakership to Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Jay Velasco.

Cayetano told reporters Friday (January 1) that he wished Duterte would’ve taken ownership of the 2021 national budget while Congress deliberated on it to ensure adequate funds for the procurement of COVID-19 vaccines.

The House of Representatives’ passage of the 2021 general appropriations bill in October was marred by the speakership fight between Cayetano and Velasco.

“Kaya sabi ko nga, kung sinabi ni Presidente n’ung budget [hearings], ‘Akin ‘to. Kahit anong mangyari, hindi naman sisisihin ang House o ang Senate, kaya kung hindi n’yo aayusin, aayusin ko ‘to,’ that’s what I want to hear the President say on two occasions: one is the vaccination, sabihin n’ya, ‘Pag hindi n’yo ‘to inayos, aayusin ko ‘to,’” Cayetano said.

The former Speaker tried in vain to hold on to his previous post by saying he wanted to see the budget’s journey through the legislative mill to its completion.

Cayetano has called the 2021 budget an “election budget,” with supposed hefty allocations for Velasco’s allies.
