President Rodrigo Duterte issued an executive order (EO), retaining tariff rate on mechanically deboned poultry meat at 5 percent.
Signed last January 15, EO 123 lowered import tariff on mechanically deboned chicken and turkey meat until December 31, 2022.
“In view of the continuing crisis brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, there is an urgent need to adopt measures aimed towards mitigating the adverse impacts of the current situation on the lives and livelihoods of Filipinos,” said Duterte.
He also cited the need for the government to “provide an enabling environment that ensures the continued supply of essential food products at stable prices, helps business recover and sustain their operation, and preserves and creates employment opportunities, all for the purpose of supporting the economy in bouncing back and resuming its growth momentum.”
In July 2019, Duterte also signed EO 82, keeping the 5-percent tariff on mechanically deboned meat until December 31, 2020.
