Duterte to successor: Be ‘forceful and resolution’ vs corruption

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte expects his successor to take “resolute” anti-corruption measures at the Department of Public Works and Highways.

On Thursday, Duterte said he hoped that the next President would go after officials who rig bids in public construction projects.

“I hope that the next president would be as forceful and resolute na to confront this almost evil practice of people going around the country, naghahanap ng mga bidding, tapos paghati-hatian lang nila,” the Chief Executive said during the inauguration of Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 Project.

“Kaya ang mga proyekto natin, ang pera ng Pilipino, hindi sapat doon sa budgeted sa isang eskwelahan, isang… Because of corruption. Iyan talaga ang totoo,” he also said.

Last December, Duterte named nine incumbent and former lawmakers who allegedly received kickback from infrastructure projects in their districts.

The list, which came from the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission included Occidental Mindoro Rep. Josephine Ramirez-Sato, Northern Samar 1st District Rep. Paul Daza, Bataan 1st District Rep. Geraldine Roman, Quezon City 5th District Rep. Alfred Vargas, Isabela 4th District Rep. Alyssa Sheena Tan, Quezon Province Representative Angelina Helen Tan, ACT-CIS Partylist Representative Eric Yap, Misamis Occidental Representative Henry Oaminal, and former Ifugao Rep. Teodoro “Teddy” Baguilat Jr.
