‘They’ve suffered enough’: Bong Revilla wants new franchise for ABS-CBN despite personal grudge

Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. supports moves to grant ABS-CBN a new franchise despite having a personal grudge against the network’s news department.

In a gathering with showbiz reporters, Revilla said he believes the network already “suffered enough” since going off the air in May 2020 after its franchise expired.

“If they had committed anything, I think they have suffered enough for it. Since the shutdown, the (network’s) employees have been jobless and it’s time we help them get their jobs back,” Revilla said, as quoted by Philippine Star entertainment editor Ricky Lo.

The senator, who was jailed for four years over plunder charges connected to the multibillion-peso pork barrel scam, stressed that he has always been for the renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise.

“Kahit may sama ng loob ako sa kanila, then and up to now, I support the ABS-CBN franchise. It has been my stand,” he said.

Lo said Revilla told reporters that his grudge was against ABS-CBN’s news and current affairs division, not its entertainment arm.
