The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is not included in the Philippines’ expanded travel ban to limit the spread of new coronavirus (Covid-19) strain.
“The President will be the one to declare that, if ever. The list is for extension of restrictions,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said when asked for the inclusion of the UAE in the travel ban.
The Department of Health earlier detected a new strain of Covid-19 in a 29-year-old male resident of Quezon City who arrived from the UAE last January 7.
On Friday, Roque announced that the government’s Covid-19 task force approved the recommendation to extend until January 31 the entry travel restrictions on 32 countries.
The temporary ban covers the United Kingdom, Denmark, Ireland, Japan, Australia, Israel, The Netherlands, The People’s Republic of China including the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Switzerland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Lebanon, Singapore, Sweden, South Korea, South Africa, Canada, Spain, United States of America, Portugal, India, Finland, Norway, Jordan, Brazil, Austria, Pakistan, Jamaica, Luxembourg, and Oman.
Filipino citizens will be allowed to enter the country provided they will undergo a facility-based 14-day quarantine, even if they obtain a negative RT‑PCR test result.
