The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has expressed support for the call of President Rodrigo Duterte to the local government units (LGUs) to pass an ordinance restricting the movement of unvaccinated children.
“Suportado namin, of course, ang panawagan ng ating Pangulo,” DILG Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said during a Laging Handa public briefing interview Wednesday.
Citing the Omnibus Guidelines on the Implementation of Community Quarantine in the Philippines, Malaya said that LGUs have the authority over age restrictions.
“Si Secretary (Eduardo) Año, kinausap na ang mga mayor at sila ay inatasan na pag-aralan na po itong bagay na ito. Suportado po natin yan at marami na pong mga LGUs ang nagbabalangkas na ng kanilang mga ordinansa. Ngunit merong iba na meron na pong executive order,” he added.
On Monday, Duterte asked LGUs to consider passing ordinances banning children under 12 years old or those who have yet to get a Covid-19 vaccine inside malls and public places.
