‘Di na kailangang pumila! Camille Villar, Kiko Benitez push for holding more virtual job fairs

By Billy Begas

Las Piñas Rep. Camille Villar and Negros Rep. Jose Francisco Benitez have jointly filed a resolution calling on government agencies to conduct more virtual job fairs to help job seekers.

Villar underscored the need to intensify online job fairs after the country’s unemployment rate soared to 10.4 percent last year or about 4.5 million Filipinos became jobless, the highest in 15 years.

“Various government agencies must innovate in generating job opportunities during the pandemic and health crisis,” Villar said.

House Resolution 1597 urged the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the Civil Service Commission (CSC), and other related agencies to conduct Balik-Trabaho E-Jobs and Online Job Fairs and similar virtual career platform activities to help job seekers.

“With vaccination in the country to roll out in the next few days and as the economy is expected to rebound and gradually reopens, a roadmap on employment, jobs and opportunities must be set in place, taking into consideration health protocols and government restriction on mass gatherings,” added Villar.

Over 21,000 jobs were available in an online job fair spearheaded by DOLE and the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration with mynimo.com in December last year. Some 600 domestic firms and 15 licensed recruitment agencies participated in the event.
