Duterte grateful for proposed Bayanihan 3: Money won’t go into corruption

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte thanked Congress for its proposed third version of the Bayanihan Law that seeks to respond to the demands of the coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis in the country.

In his weekly public address on government response to the pandemic on Monday, Duterte assured the lawmakers that the executive branch would not put the money into waste.

“I also would like to thank the Congress of the Republic of the Philippines for understanding us and giving us the critical support that we badly need to discharge our duties,” the Chief Executive said.

“It is the people’s money tapos in-appropriate ng Congress para dito. So I do not really begrudge them if they are overstrict sa mga bagay-bagay na paggastos nito. And they will see to it that the money is not wasted, and worse, it will go into corruption. So salamat po sa Congress. Sama-sama tayo dito,” he added.

Earlier, Speaker Lord Allan Velasco, with Marikina City Representative Stella Luz Quimbo, filed House Bill No. 8628 or the proposed “Bayanihan to Arise As One Act,” that would provide a P420-billion fund to help revive the country’s economy severely battered by its months-long lockdown.
