‘Mas masaya ako sa lokal!’ Robredo mulls Cam Sur run in 2022 despite clamor for presidential bid

Vice President Leni Robredo is considering running for a local post in Camarines Sur amid calls for her to run for president in 2022.

In an interview with GMA News Saturday (February 20), Robredo hinted about a possible return to local politics as she acknowledged the challenges that come with aspiring for the presidency.

Robredo, the chairperson of the Liberal Party, admitted it’s not easy for her to decide on what her political plans will be due to the clamor for her to run for president.

Pulse Asia’s survey on possible presidential candidates showed Robredo trailing behind in fifth place should the 2022 elections be held during the survey period of November 23 to December 2, 2020. Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte led the poll.

Robredo said that while she’s prepared for the job of becoming president, mounting a nationwide campaign will be difficult, particularly for the opposition.

Mahirap. Kahit pa sabihin nating gusto ko, mahirap siyang gawin in the sense na maraming responsibilities at saka maraming kinakailangang ipaghanda bago iyon mangyari,” she said.

Robredo said she will decide at the “last minute” on her political plans. The Commission on Elections has set the deadline for filing certificates of candidacy for president and vice president on October 8, 2021.
