President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the purchase of 15 new Black Hawk helicopters and decommissioning of all Huey helicopters, according to Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles.
In a televised briefing Thursday, Nograles said this aims to address the growing heli-lift deficiency of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
“Maalala niyo po na pito sa ating mga mahal na sundalo ay pumanaw nung may nag crash landing na isang Huey helicopter sa Bukindnon nung January 16,” according to the Palace official.
“This was the fourth such crash since July of last year and the President wants to end all these tragic deaths. Our servicemen and their families deserve better,” he also said.
It can be recalled that last month, Duterte expressed his intent to decommission all Huey helicopters of the Philippine Air Force following the crash in Bukidnon.
