Albay Rep. Joey Salceda on Monday urged the Department of Finance (DOF) to create a task force to address fuel smuggling in the country.
Salceda, who chairs the House committee on ways and means which is the
panel reviewing and making tax measures, said the Philippines has lost
P357 billion in taxes from fuel smuggling from 2010 to 2019
“I am urging that the task force be created (to) undertake programs
and audits that will catch fuel smuggling,” Salceda said.
In November 2020, Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III said that
rising tax revenues from fuel marking was proof that oil smuggling was
on the decline.
