The COVAX facility has committed to deliver 117,000 doses of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine to the Philippines by April, Deputy Chief Implementer for Covid-19 Secretary Vince Dizon said on Wednesday.
The government initially announced that Pfizer-BioNTech doses would arrive by February but the absence of an indemnification law delayed the vaccine delivery.
Dizon also expressed confidence that the Pfizer vaccine doses will be used for frontline hospital workers.
“Aabot po ang Pfizer kung darating po ito ng Abril since napangako ng WHO (World Health Organization). Aabot po ito para sa ating mga health workers,” according to him.
The Philippines needs 3.4 million doses of vaccines to inoculate the country’s 1.7 million health care workers.
It has now received 1.12 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines from Sinovac and AstraZeneca-Oxford.
