Will President Duterte listen to his former aide’s latest suggestions to fight the COVID-19 surge?
Senator Bong Go has proposed a ban on mass gatherings to break the runaway COVID-19 transmission in the country. Alternative work arrangements should also be considered to prevent people from acquiring the contagious disease, the President’s former assistant said.
Go, alarmed by the rise in coronavirus infections in the country, said people should likewise stay at home and avoid unnecessary travels as much as possible.
Go said in a Facebook post.
Kailangan mapigilan ito habang patuloy ang ating pagbabakuna,” he said.
The Philippines’ COVID-19 cases have increased to almost 700,000 as more cases of new variants have been reported by the health department.
The government earlier refused to bring the country back to enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), first imposed on March 2020, after it left the economy in ruins and millions of Filipinos jobless and hungry.
