President Rodrigo Duterte was only joking when he raised the possibility of having cancer after he coughed in the middle of his speech at an event in Tacloban City, his spokesman said Friday.
“On the basis of what is saw on TV, I would say na nagbibiro naman po yung presidente. Kasi naubo nga po siya. Tapos ang sabi niya baka cancer na ito,” Duterte’s mouthpiece Harry Roque said in a televised briefing.
Roque reiterated that the President will let the public know if he’s seriously ill.
“Ang presidente naman po abogado. Susunod siya sa Saligang Batas kung meron siyang seryosong karamdaman. Ipagbibigay alam niya po yan sa publiko,” the Palace official said.
“So, I think that’s really a joke of the President and should not be taken to mean na may cancer talaga siya,” he added.
