President Rodrigo Duterte expressed hope that the infrastructure projects in Negros Oriental would boost the province’s tourism sector and prop up its coronavirus-hit local economy.
Duterte made the statement during the inauguration of the P252-million rehabilitation projects within the Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport and the newly constructed Port Operations Building at the Port of Dumaguete on Thursday.
“I hope that this project will inspire us further to provide better services and opportunities for our people and harness the potential of trade and tourism as the catalyst for economic recovery, particularly in the provinces,” the Chief Executive said in his speech.
He also assured that his administration would remain committed to completing infrastructure projects on time with the least inconvenience to the public and with strict adherence to honesty and integrity.
“Corruption has no place here,” added Duterte.
The rehab projects at the Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport include the re-blocking of the apron, construction of two taxiways, expansion of the existing Passenger Terminal Building, runway asphalt overlay and shoulder grade correction, and expansion of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines Administrative Building.
On one hand, the P114-million two-story Port Operations Building features a Port Integrated Clearing house, office spaces for Philippine Ports Authority-Dumaguete employees, and a pre-departure area that can accommodate additional 500 passengers.
