President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday emphasized his commitment to modernize the country’s naval arsenal.
“We reaffirm the strong commitment of the transformation, modernization, innovation and pursuit of high standards in our naval service,” Duterte said in a video message during the christening and commissioning ceremony of BRP Antonio Luna (FF-151).
BRP Antonio Luna (FF-151) is the second missile-capable frigate of the Philippine Navy, which was manufactured by South Korean shipmaker, Hyundai Heavy Industries.
In his speech, Duterte hoped that the bravery and patriotism of General Antonio Luna would inspire the officers and crew of the new ship as they prepare for their future sails.
“We welcome more promising milestone, modernization program with a fervent hope for greater national peace and progress,” he also said.
