Ex-Kapamilya broadcaster Ces Drilon eyeing Senate run in 2022 – sources

Veteran broadcaster and former ABS-CBN news anchor Ces Oreña-Drilon is reportedly planning to enter the political arena in next year’s national elections.

Politiko learned that Drilon, who retired last year following the non-renewal of the network giant’s congressional franchise, was seriously studying a potential senatorial bid, according to reliable tips from several insiders within the Lopez-owned media conglomerate.

Another insider in the Senate confirmed that Drilon already sought the blessing of the Drilon family patriarch, incumbent Senate Minority Floor Leader Franklin Drilon over the supposed political plans of the retired TV anchor.

The former Kapamilya broadcaster’s estranged husband, renowned painter and visual artist Rock Drilon, is a nephew of the outgoing veteran senator.

Ces and Frank maintained a good relationship despite the former being separated from the latter’s nephew.

The elder Drilon is prohibited for another Senate run next year after serving two full terms in period of 12 years, and it seems that he had already anointed his kin as potential replacement in the upper chamber.

The veteran senator will either run as district legislator of Iloilo City or as governor of province of Iloilo.

Meanwhile, it is still unclear whether or not Ces will run as an independent candidate or as part of the newly formed opposition force, 1Sambayan, considering that his uncle-in-law Frank is the current vice chairman of the Liberal Party (LP) which is part of the said political coalition. (CRD)
