Gov’t OKs ‘once-a-day’ indoor religious gatherings during Holy Week

By Prince Golez

The Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) has allowed churches, mosques and other places of worship to hold “once-a-day” religious gatherings during Holy Week from April 1 to April 4.

On Friday, Palace Spokesman Harry Roque said places of worship must not exceed 10 percent of their seating capacity.

“Hinihikayat din na ang pagpasok sa mga simbahan o venues ay sa pamamagitan po ng reservation para matiyak na masusunod ang 10 percent capacity,” Roque said in an interview with PTV4.

The Palace official also said outdoor religious ceremonies are prohibited to avoid people from gathering.

“Upang maiwasan ang pagtitipon-tipon ng mga tao sa labas ng simbahan, ipinagbabawal ang paggamit ng audio video system sa labas ng simbahan o venue habang mayroong misa o worship service,” according to him.

“Ang live-singing, kung meron, ay striktong lilimitahan at hinihikayat ang recorded singing,” he added.

Roque likewise urged faith communities to attend worship services virtually to prevent the transmission of Covid-19.
