Malacañang on Thursday urged the European Union (EU) to “give the Philippines a chance” to discharge its obligation to investigate and punish those who may have breached domestic laws.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque was reacting to the statement of the EU Delegation to the Philippines on the killing of activists in Calabarzon reminding the commitment made by the Philippines at the Human Rights Council to protect human rights and ensure accountability for abuses.
“Obligasyon ng ating estado kapag merong mga napatay ay imbestigahan at litisin at parusahan ang mga pumapatay,” Roque said in his virtual presser.
“We are undertaking and discharging the state obligation to investigate, prosecute and punish,” he also said.
A total of nine unarmed activists were killed by police and military personnel during simultaneous raids in Batangas, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal provinces on March 7.
