A female informant of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) was killed after being shot at close range during the armed encounter between PDEA agents and policemen on February 24, surveillance footage showed.
Video clips being reviewed by authorities showed the woman was shot as she was running towards a parked car that had its hood open. She was carrying a bag.
“The woman was shot at close range. However, another PDEA informant survived. The informant is now in police custody,” a source familiar with the investigation told Politiko.
The source said the woman was located at the parking lot of a fastfood chain along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City by a surveillance gadget.
“PDEA had to stop there because their car overheated,“ the source explained.
PDEA spokesperson Derrick Carreon confirmed the death of the female informant but refused to give additional details. He also declined to confirm that another informant survived the shootout.
Two policemen and one PDEA agent were also killed in the shooting incident, which authorities have called a “misencounter.”
President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to be the sole government agency to investigate the shootout.
