Bayan Muna and Anakpawis condemned the shooting that led to the death of a union leader in Calamba, Laguna on Sunday night.
Bayan Muna Rep. Ferdinand Gaite expressed belief that the killing of Dandy Miguel, a leader of Pagkakaisa ng Manggagawa sa Timog Katagalugan-KMU (Pamantik-KMU) is a continuation of the so-called Bloody Sunday raids which resulted to the death of nine activists.
“Ito ba ang regalo ng mga pasistang ahente sa kanilang Pangulo, dugo ng isa na namang lider-manggagawa?” said Gaite, who was referring to the birthday of President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday.
Gaite said “It seems that they have now shifted back to their practice of unleashing fascist death squads to assassinate activists since their modus operandi of launching bloody raids and fake searches for planted weapons have been widely exposed and condemned.”
Miguel was shot in in Brgy. Canlubang, Calamba City in Laguna at around 8:45 pm.
Anakpawis national president Ariel Casilao said Miguel was killed due to his active leadership in the labor movement in Laguna denouncing contractualization of labor, jeepney phase-out, and other issues.
