Roque blames politics for calls to abolish COVID task force: Hindi nila kasalanan na nag-mutate ang virus

Malacañang on Tuesday blamed politics for calls to abolish the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases due to incompetence in their coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic response.

“Lumalakas naman po ang ingay sa pulitika. May ilan na nanawagan pa na dapat daw po buwagin ang Inter-Agency Task Force on Covid-19. Ito ay sa gitna ng tumataas na aktibong kaso ng Covid-19 sa bansa,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a virtual presser.

Roque also stressed that the IATF still uses science as the basis for its decisions and initiatives.

“Ang lahat ng desisyon ng IATF ay nakabase po sa siyensya. Si (infectious disease specialist) Dr. Edsel Salvaña at si (Health) Undersecretary (Maria Rosario) Vergeire na nagsabi isa sa napakalaking dahilan sa pagtaas ng mga kaso ay dahil dito sa mga bagong variant,” he said.

“Tanggapin natin o hindi, nag-mutate po ang mga virus at hindi naman po kasalanan ng IATF na nag-mutate itong mga virus sa pamamaraan na mas nakakahawa sila,” according to him.

Roque said that aside from the Philippines, France and Poland have also imposed new lockdown measures due to a fresh surge of Covid-19 infections.

Hungary, Bulgaria, and Bosnia, he added, also tightened restrictions to tackle emerging variants of the virus.
