The Philippines may still be waiting for the refreshed Patrol, which made its world debut in September 2019, but time doesn’t stand still for Nissan which just released the sporty 2021 Patrol Nismo.
Exclusively available to customers in the Middle East, the 2021 Patrol Nismo underlines Nissan’s heritage as a motorsports brand, and the region’s long-standing affinity towards high-performance vehicles.
The Patrol Nismo exudes added aggression thanks to a new face featuring a honeycomb mesh embellishing the trademark V-Motion grille. It also gets new front fog lamps and horizontal chrome lines with the Nismo emblem. The rear is made more symmetrical to accentuate the car’s width and has new dark chrome inserts and taillights. At all four corners are lighter (4.5 kilograms cumulatively) 22-inch two-tone aluminum wheels as well as Bilstein shock absorbers for improved handling.
The aggressive design isn’t just skin deep. The addition of a side duct to the front bumper achieves zero lift force (a rarity in a full-sized SUV) while also improving brake cooling, while the new roof spoiler ensures smoother air flow at high speed.
Inside, the Nismo racing pedigree is on full display with its black Alcantara steering wheel, red carbon fiber inserts, and front bucket seats with headrests embossed with the Nismo logo. The center console and dashboard also add other Nismo touches.
While known for its performance, the Patrol Nismo also features frame enhancements that reduce vibrations, thereby improving cabin quietness. Air conditioning upgrades for the second row make for a more comfortable ride.
Under the hood, the Patrol Nismo features a re-tuned version of the 5.6-liter V8. Tuned and assembled by a team of four Takumi craftsmen, it now offers 28 more horsepower at 428 horsepower; torque has been retained at 560 Nm. This is mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission.
The 2021 Nissan Patrol Nismo has also been upgraded with latest Nissan Intelligent Mobility (NIM) technologies to provide drivers with peace of mind while driving. The latest additions include Intelligent Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Intelligent Forward Collision Warning, Smart Rear View Mirror and a High Beam Assist. Technology upgrades to the Patrol Nismo also include Apple CarPlay compatibility, wireless charging capability, and USB ports including USB-A and USB-C.
The arrival of the Patrol Nismo begins a year-long celebration to mark the 70th anniversary of the Nissan Patrol nameplate which first launched in 1951.
