The MG Marvel R is a 288-horsepower, 655 Nm of Torque Super SUV

MG just pulled the wraps off its next-generation battery electric vehicle—the 2022 Marvel R Electric. Dubbed as a “high-tech, luxurious lifestyle SUV” it’s destined to push the SAIC Motor brand’s presence in Europe, fighting the likes of the Volkswagen ID.4 and Tesla Model Y.

The Marvel R Electric takes on MG’s new “Evolution Design” language. It offers minimalistic design feature, relying on “attractive proportions” to make it look modern and sophisticated.

Measuring in at 4,674 mm long, 1,919 mm wide, and 1,618 mm tall, the Marvel R rides on a 2,800 mm wheelbase. This translates to a spacious interior backed up by the use of screens—a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 19.4-inch center touchscreen.

The luggage compartment in the rear offers a volume of 357 liters. With the rear seat folded down, it can be increased to 1,396 liters. The RWD version of the Marvel R Electric also offers 150 liters of luggage space under the hood, also known as a “frunk.”

The MG Marvel R has a range of over 400 kilometers, and can be charged either by its onboard 11-kilowatt three-phase charger, or a fast-charging DC where it can reach an 80 percent charge in just 30 minutes.

Another feature of the Marvel R is its V2L or Vehicle-to-load capability. This allows its onboard lithium-ion battery to supply energy to an external electrical system such as an air pump, electric scooter, or even another battery electric vehicle.

The MG Marvel R Electric uses not one, not two, but three electric motors—one in the front and two at the back (a rear-wheel drive variant with dual electric motors will also be on offer).

All in all, it has 288 horsepower and 655 Nm of torque. 0 to 50 km/h arrives in 1.8 seconds, while 0 to 100 km/h is done in just 4.9 seconds. Top speed is limited to 200 km/h.

The MG Marvel R Electric will be launched for the European market by May 2021. For the Philippine market, MG Philippines has committed to launch, or at least showcase the all-electric MG ZS EV this year.
