Malacañang is leaving it up to the Department of National Defense (DND) to decide on calls for the removal of Lt. Gen. Antonio Parlade Jr. as spokesman of the National Task Force to End Local Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).
“Hinahayaan na po natin ang desisyon na yan kay Secretary (Delfin) Lorenzana ng Department of National Defense,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a televised briefing Thursday.
The Senate yesterday adopted a committee report recommending the removal of Parlade, known for his penchant for red-tagging, from the anti-communist task force.
His appointment to the post, the chamber said, violates Article 16, Section 5 of the Constitution banning active members of the armed forces from holding a civilian position in the government.
Last year, Parlade came under fire for allegedly red-tagging celebrities Liza Soberano and Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray.
He again courted controversy over his recent claim that INQUIRER. net reporter Tetch Torres-Tupas was a “communist propagandist.”
