An application for compassionate use of anti-parasitic drug Ivermectin for Covid-19 treatment has been filed with the Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA), according to Malacañang.
“Ni-report po ni (Director General Eric) Domingo na meron na pong nag-apply ngayon for compassionate use ng Ivermectin,” Spokesman Harry Roque said in a televised briefing Monday.
Roque said the FDA can process the compassionate use request.
“Antayin na lang po natin ang aksyon ng FDA sa mga naisampa ng aplikasyon for Ivermectin,” he added.
Earlier, Merck, an Ivermectin manufacturer, earlier cautioned against the use of the drug to treat patients with Covid-19.
Ivermectin is FDA-approved for use in animals for prevention of canine heartworm disease.
