Take it from Digong’s BFF! Jesse Robredo would’ve been president, not Duterte

One of President Rodrigo Duterte’s closest friends believe he wouldn’t be in Malacañang if the husband of Vice President Leni Robredo were still alive.

Manila Times columnist Mon Tulfo praised the late Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo as he called out Interior Undersecretary Epimaco Densing for disrespecting the Vice President.

Densing had mocked Robredo in a television interview and called her position “non essential.”

In his April 10 column, Tulfo said Jesse would’ve likely become president if he didn’t die in a plane crash off Masbate in August 2012.

Jesse’s death catapulted his widow to the national spotlight and paved the way for her entry into politics.

“Let me remind Densing and his ilk that if Leni’s husband, Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo, had not died in office he would likely have become the president of the republic because of his brilliance in management and genuine common touch,” Tulfo said.

“If Jesse Robredo were alive today, Rodrigo R. Duterte would still be Davao City mayor. Digong Duterte filled the gap of championing the masses left by Jesse Robredo’s passing, the reason he won the highest office of the land,” he added.

Tulfo said disrespecting Robredo is tantamount to desecrating the memory of her late husband, whom he said “was much loved by the people” and “selflessly served the country.”

The Department of Interior and Local Government has distanced itself from densing’s remarks, saying they are his own and does not reflect the agency’s views.

Densing has not apologized for his comments about Robredo.
