The national government will go “full blast” on its coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccination program should new variants of Covid-19 affect more Filipinos, President Rodrigo Duterte said.
In a televised address delivered Monday night but aired Tuesday, Duterte said that he approved the procurement of more vaccines, adding that there’s no way of knowing whether or not a new Covid-19 variant will come up.
“We will just have to prepare for the worst… Okay ‘yong ating preparasyon. We continue to prepare and we calibrate our preparedness in accordance with each propagation,” the country’s chief executive said.
“Kung medyo palapit nang palapit na at marami nang tinatamaan, then we will go full blast in making everything operational,” he added.
Duterte also encouraged concerned agencies to continue their policy responses to Covid-19 crisis facing the nation.
“I would be happy if you continue to build the infrastructure of our COVID system, Covid-19 fight system, because for as long as the Covid-19 is here and it will take a lot of time before it finally disappear, if at all, and with the advent of a new variants, it is good to prepare for a more serious attack,” he concluded.
