President Rodrigo Duterte still prefers to be addressed as “President” or “Mayor.”
In a taped public address aired on state-run PTV-4 Tuesday morning, Duterte rejected being called “Ginoong Presidente.”
“Sir, may request lang ako. Hindi ako nagbibiro. Para hindi ako ma off-guard, wag mo na lang gamitin yang ‘Ginoong Presidente’, Sir, kasi yang ‘Ginoo’ sa amin ‘Diyos’ sa Bisaya,”the President made the remark after Health Secretary Francisco Duque III presented a situation report on the Covid-19 (Covid-19) pandemic in the Philippines.
He also does not like to be addressed as “mahal na Presidente.”
“Alam nila na nagmamahalan tayo dito kaya tayo nagsama-sama because we love our country and that is really the focal point of what we are here for,” said Duterte.
“Ano na lang, Sir, ‘President’ na lang diretso. Pati minsan si (National Task Force Against Covid-19 chief implementer) Secretary (Calito) Galvez (Jr.) siya ang gumagamit ng ‘mahal’. Taken na we love each other and all of us in this country… ‘Presidente’ na lang diretso or ‘mayor’. I am most comfortable with the appellation ‘mayor’. Mas maganda sa tenga ko,” according to him.
