Carpio’s call for Duterte resignation a ‘wishful thinking’ – Palace

By Prince Golez

Malacañang on Monday dismissed as “wishful thinking” the call of Retired Supreme Court Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio’s for President Rodrigo Duterte to resign from the presidency.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque made the comment after Carpio urged Duterte to resign for falsely claiming that the former magistrate was involved in the withdrawal of Philippine Navy ships from Scarborough Shoal.

“Wishful thinking po yan. Ang hamon ng pagbibitiw ay nag-ugat sa sinabi raw ni presidente na may kinalaman ang dating justice sa withdrawal ng Philippine Navy sa West Philippine Sea (WPS),” Roque said during his televised briefing.

The Palace official insisted that Duterte never accused Carpio of being responsible for the loss of the country’s possession of the shoal to China.

“Wala naman pong ganun sinabi ang presidente,” according to him.

In his “Talk to the People” televised address Wednesday last week, the Presidente claimed that Carpio had a role in the decision to withdraw the Philippine ships from the WPS during the 2012 standoff.

He promised to step down from his post if proven false.
