National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Secretary Karl Kendrick Chua apologized Monday (May 3) over the technical glitches that marred the first day of the government’s online registration for a national ID.
In an interview over ANC’s “Headstart,” Chua explained that NEDA prepared for an influx of 16,000 users up to 35,000 users per minute in the test run of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) online registration.
On the first day of registration on April 30, however, around 46,000 tried to register on the website as soon as it went live.
“First of all I would like to extend my sincerest apologies to the Filipino people for what happened. I take full responsibility, but I hope the viewers would care to listen to the story to give people some understanding,” he said.
“It is a pilot, and the main reason for piloting it is to learn, and we learned a lot,” Chua added.
The NEDA chief said the registration portal will be relaunched as soon as glitches are fixed.
Those interested to register for a national ID can log in to register.philsys.gov.ph. After filling out an online form with personal information, the applicant will schedule an appointment for biometrics registration.
