President Rodrigo Duterte is hoping results of studies on the use of ivermectin in treatment of Covid-19 turn out to be positive.
During his public address on Wednesday, Duterte said he’s “praying” that ivermectin, an antiparasitic medicine, can be a palliative that minimizes the risks of infection.
“There has to be an effect in that thing there that is being introduced into your body kasi kung for preventive mayroon ka, kung maglabas ‘yan that’s what also I am hoping that it will turn out that way that we can use it so that ako ang maunang mag-ano because inumin mo para ano ka ‘yong at least preventive,” according to the Chief Executive.
Duterte earlier ordered the Department of Science and Technology, Department of Health, and the Food and Drug Administration to conduct clinical trials of ivermectin for Covid-19 treatment.
At least five hospitals have been granted a compassionate use permit to use human-grade ivermectin on Covid-19 patients.
