Duterte to LGUs: Ramp up vaccinations to avoid wasting shots

By Prince Golez

To prevent losses due to expiration, President Rodrigo Duterte has directed local government units (LGUs) to inoculate people as quickly as possible once Covid-19 vaccines reach them.

In his televised speech Thursday, Duterte advised LGUs to routinely monitor storage temperatures and shelf-lives to avoid unnecessary vaccine wastage.

“See to it that the mechanism, ‘yong infrastructure ninyo sa baba kailangan must be able to come up with the numbers required kasi itong mga bakuna may ano ito, may expiry date… It cannot be effective forever. The efficacy loses in a less period of time than other medications,” according to him.

“Kailangan pagdating doon sa inyo mapatakbo na kaagad ninyo ‘yong administrative pati siguro mga local may mga hospital. Magtulung-tulungan na lang so that we would not waste the vaccines because we were not able to deliver it on time,” he added.

Also, Duterte assured LGUs that the national government will distribute the vaccines as fast as they come to its possession.

“Maghintay lang kayo because these things must be distributed immediately the fastest way that we can do it… Mabilis na ang dating ngayon at mabilis din ang bigay natin. It goes without saying na mabilis pagpasok, bilis din tayo magpalabas sa inyo,” the country’s chief executive said.
