Never say die! Alan Cayetano to push for P10K aid if Bayanihan 3 reaches bicam

By Billy Begas

The camp of former Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano will not prevent the House of Representatives from passing the proposed Bayanihan to Arise As One (Bayanihan 3) despite the exclusion of the proposed minimum P10,000 financial assistance per household.

But Cayetano said he and his allies would still push to include the proposal during the deliberation of the Bicameral Conference Committee.

“Napag-usapan ng grupo wag nang pahabain ang debate kasi ilang araw na lang at pabayaan na siyang pumasa nang ganyan, pero ipaglaban sa bicam at magkumbinsi pa ng ilan pang mga kongresista na P10,000 ang minimum na kailangan ng bawat pamilya para makaahon,” Cayetano said.

The House has approved the Bayanihan 3 bill on second reading on May 25.

If the Senate approves a similar measure, the Bicameral Conference Committee will discuss the measure to settle disagreeing provisions before sending it to Malacañang for the president’s signature.

Cayetano and his allies filed the 10k Ayuda Bill, aiming to distribute P10,000 to every Filipino family or P1,500 per family member which ever is higher to boost household consumption and stimulate the economy.

While the proposed measure was consolidated into the Bayanihan 3 bill, the House Committees on Economic Affairs and on Social Services excluded the proposal in the final version.

Instead, the committees approved Speaker Lord Allan Velasco’s proposal to give two P1,000 per individual. However, the second P1,000 will depend on the availability of the funds.

Cayetano’s group has distributed P10,000 cash aid to the poorest of the poor in Batangas, Bulacan, Cavite, Camarines Sur, Caloocan City, Marikina City, Quezon City, Taguig City, Mandaluyong City, Pateros, Laguna, Rizal, and Leyte.
