The construction of a mega-vaccination center at the Nayong Pilipino Foundation (NPF) in Parañaque City is pursuant to inherent police powers of President Rodrigo Duterte, Malacañang told NPF board members opposing the proposed facility.
In his virtual presser on Monday, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque reminded the NPF executives that they are under the supervision of Duterte and that their decisions should not run counter to the government’s mission to protect the public health.
“Ang panawagan natin sa board ng Nayong Pilipino, ito na naman po ‘no, lahat po ng GOCCs ay nasa ilalim pa rin ng supervision ng ating presidente, at sana naman ang mga desisyon nila eh ‘wag kokontra doon sa napakahalagang misyon na pangalagaan ang buhay ng ating mga kababayan,” said Roque.
“Yung pagtatayo po ng mega-vaccination facility diyan sa Nayong Pilipino, yan po ay pursuant to inherent police powers ng ating presidente, at yan naman po ay para itaguyod ang karapatan sa kalusugan ng lahat,” he also said.
On May 6, the NPF expressed its opposition to the building of a vaccination facility in its property, saying that it will lead to the cutting of nearly 500 trees, and kill the existing ecosystem.
The property, according to the Foundation, is “not a vacant lot but has a thriving urban forest that hosts a variety of urban wildlife and is the last remaining grassland in the reclaimed area of Parañaque.”
