Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo expressed willingness to debate retired Supreme Court senior associate justice Antonio Carpio over the West Philippine Sea (WPS).
This, after Carpio rejected the proposal of President Rodrigo Duterte to designate Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque as his representative instead.
“Kung gusto mo tayo na lang magdebate,” Panelo said in his recent online commentary show “Counterpoint.”
Duterte, according to him, is no match for Carpio, saying that they do not have the “same rank, same intelligence, and same status.”
“Eh president ito ng bansa, eh ito wala, retired na ito,” he added.
Roque earlier said that the Chief Executive heeded the advice of his Cabinet not to square off with the former magistrate because the debate might affect government policies on the WPS.
