Panelo excited for Trillanes’ presidential bid: Para masampal ka ng talo!

MANILA – Former senator Antonio Trillanes IV is in for “nightmares” once he pursues the presidency in 2022, Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo said on Saturday.

Panelo said he could not fathom how the rebel soldier turned senator could think of running for the highest post.

“My golly,” Panelo said during his commentary show “Counterpoint”.

“Tatakbo daw presidente. Ang lakas ng apog (He said he wants to run for president. He’s thick-faced),” he said. “Sa totoo lang, gusto kong tumakbo ka para makita ko na ang sampal sa ’yo ng botante. Marami na ang nag-aabang ‘yung pagsampal sa mukha mo sa pagkatalo mo (Honestly, I want him to run so voters could slap him with reality that he will lose. The public is waiting to see him lose).”

Trillanes announced Wednesday his plan to replace Vice President Leni Robredo as the candidate for president under the opposition coalition 1Sambayan.

Trillanes, who lost in the 2016 vice presidential poll, said he announced his potential presidential bid because of reports that Robredo has transferred residence to prepare for the gubernatorial election in Camarines Sur.

Panelo taunted Trillanes for making a hasty conclusion that Robredo would not join the 2022 presidential race.

“Itong si VP Leni, hindi ho ba siya ang tinutulak na presidente at wala pa siyang sinasabi na hindi siya tatakbo. Aba’y inunahan na. Sabi niya iyang si VP Leni, nagpe-preparang gobernador diyan sa Camarines Sur (VP Leni is being pushed to run for president and she has yet to announce her plan. But Trillanes made his announcement ahead of her. He said VP Leni is preparing to run for governor of Camarines Sur),” he said.

Panelo said Trillanes may or may not wake up from a “bad dream” if he will persist in pursuing his ambition.

“Sabi ko nga, libre ang bangungot po dito. Mangarap ka at mabangungot ka. May namamatay ho sa bangungot. Ang dami hong namamatay sa bangungot. Sana naman eh huwag kang mamatay (I said it is free to have your own nightmare. Dream and have nightmares. You can die from a nightmare. I hope you won’t die),” he said.

Robredo’s spokesperson, Barry Gutierrez, said the Vice President has yet to come up with a decision regarding her political plans next year as she is focused on helping Filipinos amid the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.

In a virtual presser on Thursday, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Trillanes is “free to dream” on becoming the country’s new chief executive. (PNA)
